How To Buy a Car

Here are some money saving tips I learned from working at a car dealership.

Shop at the Right Time

Most car dealerships have monthly quotas they have to meet in order to keep receiving the same volume of cars from their parent company. If the dealerships quota has not been met then they are more likely to sell you a car with little to no profit as they benefit from making their quota. The last day of the month may not be the best time to shop because if they have already hit their quota then you will not be able to get them to come down on their price. The week leading up to the end of the month is best as they will likely not yet know whether the quota will be achieved.

Last Years Model

If you wait until the new models are released you will likely be able to get a deal on last years model even if they are brand new. The release of the new model will decrease the demand for last years model so you will likely be able to get a better deal.

Be Willing to Walk Away

The best way to find out how low a car dealership will go on price is to be willing to walk away. If you make an offer and they refuse then simply thank them for their time and tell them you want to look around. If they let you leave then they are probably at the lowest price they are willing to take. Otherwise they will probably lower their offer. They know that if you leave the lot there is a good chance that you will not come back.
