Title
How to Quit Smoking

I have a college degree and completed Marine Corps boot camp but quitting smoking cold turkey is the achievement in my life that was the hardest and I am the most pround of. Here are some tips that will help you.

Eliminate Barriers

I had a job in which my coworkers and I would take a smoke break about every hour. Also I was in the Marine Corps and we would smoke to pass the time. These were barriers to quitting smoking. Unless you eliminate these barriers your chances of quitting smoking are not good. Most likely you will quite for a short period of time and then start again because you are surrounded by temptation.

In the same month I was discharged from the Marine Corps and also started a new job that was not smoke friendly. By eliminating my barriers I significantly increased my chances of quitting smoking.

Replacements

I went through about a 50 gallon drum of sun flower seeds in my transition from smoking. Any time I would have a craving I would go to the sun flower seeds. They did not satisfy my craving but rather helped me focus on something else. Remember quitting smoking is not easy and it is imperative that you stay motivated.

Support

At one point during my quitting smoking my wife actually offered to go buy me a pack of cigarettes. I could not have quit without the support of my wife. I know I was not pleasant during the time that I quit smoking but she helped me tremendously through the hard times.

Stay Motivated

The most important piece to quitting smoking is that you actually want to quit. You must be dedicated to quitting smoking if you really want to quit. You must find the drive to push through the cravings. Whether it is your children or your health you must find something to motivate you.
